A region of beekeepers and honey

Come and enjoy the Trnava region’s sweetness. Liquid gold - sweet, tasty, fragrant, and healthy honey. Honey is perceived as a superfood due to its unique natural composition. It strengthens the immune system, has an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect, and contains vitamins. Bee products - such as pollen, royal jelly and propolis - have great health benefits.

Trnava region is truly a region of honey. Family beekeeping thrives in villages and towns of all sizes, with bees being increasingly encouraged back to cities to boost the environment. You can enjoy first spring honey from the nectar of fruit trees, honey with a full and distinctive taste from oak or spruce honeydew, and fine honey from agate groves.

For romantics, history lovers, and many more

Concealed among picturesque misty mountains, castle ruins stand proud, and towns, palaces, and parks abound with history. And are complemented by unique natural attractions.

Smolenice Castle is romantically nestled in an extensive English park with lush meadows. This original Czech Trade Route guard castle dates to the 14th century. The palace’s current appearance was fashioned by owner Jozef Pálffy in the late 19th century. He involved skilled craftsmen from Germany, Italy, Austria and Hungary - their vision for the reconstruction drew on medieval European architecture.

A fine tradition of hunting & fishing

The Trnava region’s clear waters and green landscapes have long supported rich hunting and fishing traditions.

On Žitný Ostrov (Rye Island), hunters find rabbits, pheasants, and foxes, while the Danube woodlands are home to roe deer and red deer. In autumn, pheasant hunting thrives in riverside poplar forests, alongside wild duck and geese.

Fishing is a tradition passed through generations. With a permit, anglers can cast their lines in ponds, dams, and Danube branches for carp, pike, eel, trout, catfish, and more.

Designated hunting grounds across the region ensure sustainable opportunities for roe deer, hare, partridge, pheasant, and summer quail.

Horses & stud farms

The Arabian horse was introduced to Europe by Crusaders and later by the Turks in the 16th century. Hungary soon became a center of horse breeding, with the imperial stud farm in Kopčany recorded as early as the 1660s.

In 1763, Duke Francis of Lorraine, husband of Maria Theresa, acquired the farm near Holíč Castle, moving hundreds of royal Spanish stallions there. By the 19th century, to improve breeding quality, English thoroughbreds were imported, making Kopčany a supplier of fine horses for the imperial Viennese court – used for carriages, racing, hunting, and representation.

After WWII, the farm declined, but since 2005 it has been restored and reopened. Today, it hosts exhibitions on natural history and horse breeding traditions.

And for a surprising contrast – western Slovakia is home to its own “Slovak Desert”, a 570 km² landscape of windblown sand, pine forests, and marshes, rich in rare flora and fauna found nowhere else in the country.
